Santiago, Chile (April 20, 2008) – No one was able to keep up with the unbelievable pace set by Chile's Felipe Aguilar this week in the 82nd Abierto de Chile VISA, which he won with authority this afternoon at the Club de Golf Hacienda de Chicureo.

After shooting 65-67-65 to open a huge twelve stroke lead after three days, Aguilar closed his triumphant run by carding a 4-under par 68 in the final round. His aggregate score of 23-under par 265 set his margin of victory on eleven strokes at the event organized by the Golf Federation of Chile and sanctioned by the Tour de las Americas.

Bogotá, Colombia (April 13, 2008) – Dutchman Wil Besseling was simply unstoppable today in the II Club Colombia Masters' final round. Enjoying a two-stroke overnight lead, the 22-year old ended up winning by seven in the event co-sanctioned by the Tour de las Americas and the European Challenge Tour.

On another overcast and chilly day, Besseling got off to a hot start of four birdies that allowed him to escape after only nine holes. On the back nine he bogeyed 12 and eagled 13 to shoot 66 and finish the week with an aggregate of 16-under par 268. Because of his efforts at the Country Club de Bogotá he was awarded a US $28,800 check that will push him on the race for the 2009 European Tour card.

Buenos Aires, Argentina (April 6, 2008) – Finland's Antti Ahokas carded a 71 on the final round to become the first left handed player to win the Abierto Visa de Argentina, presented by Peugeot. This victory at the event co-sanctioned by the Tour de las Americas and the European Challenge Tour was Ahokas' first as a professional.

AVONDALE, La. (March 30, 2008) - Argentina's Andres Romero won the Zurich Classic in his 12th career start on the PGA TOUR. The most successful graduate from the Tour de las Americas - where he won twice to clinch Rookie of the Year honors back in 2003 - closed with a 4-under 68 on Sunday for a one-stroke victory over Australia's Peter Lonard.

Cordoba, Argentina (March 30, 2008) – At 19, only four months into his professional career, Estanislao Goya rocked his hometown of Cordoba by winning the 77th Abierto Visa del Centro. Making this event's field by winning the Tour de las Americas' Qualifying School earlier this month in Florida, Goya claimed the title in a playoff hole against Englishman Gary Boyd.

Weston, Florida (March 6, 2008) – Argentina's Estanislao Goya was the undisputed star of the Tour de las Americas' 2008 Qualifying School. The 19-year old player, outright leader after a record breaking opening round of 61, carded a final day 70 to close the 72-hole event with an aggregate score of 21-under par 267.

His brilliant week at the Bonaventure CC, where he will be remembered as the man who broke a record of 63 set by Johnny Miller back in 1975, allowed him a comfortable nine stroke lead.

 

 


TOUR DE LAS AMERICAS JOINS INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF PGA TOURS

Caracas, Venezuela (March 26, 2007) – The relationship between the Tour de las Americas and The R&A has moved forward as The R&A's Golf Development Committee agreed to provide the Tour further support with the sum of US$ 100,000 spread over 2007, 2008 and 2009. Such contribution comes as a solid endorsement for the TLA, which is focused on the development of professional golf in Latin America and the Caribbean.
